Recap for October, November and December 2015

A very overdue recap from my Facebook page! Enjoy!

Phoenix AZ Pet Photography Blue Merle Pomeranian 01Black, white and re(a)d all over.

Phoenix AZ Pet Photography Blue Merle Pomeranian 02My world is you.

Phoenix AZ Pet Photography Blue Merle Pomeranian 03Sox has always been Tim’s dog. Since day one when we first meet him in a crowded adoption event, he clung to my husband’s side. But one of the most amazing things about Sox is when you need him, he is there for you.

The pouch is flooded? We only discovered a leak because he went out into the puddle and barked at us (and he refuses to get wet – when the ground is even damp he won’t go outside).
Waffles got stuck? Sox will let us know.

He has always been our watch dog,

I have the cold, it’s 2AM, I wake up, hot and in pain. Sox is quietly snuggled up against my stomach, apparently at some point during the night he left his bed to come and join on the couch. I get up and go the kitchen to get some meds. I grab a steak knife to cut the plastic but in my woozy state, I jab it to hard and it goes through the package and cuts my nail and finger, deep. I try to clean up the wound but my breath gets shallow and I can’t stand, I fall to the floor. Sox rushes to my face and tries to lick my tears. I try to cry out for Tim, but my throat is sore and swollen but Sox hears them and bolts to the master bedroom to go get him. He keeps going back and forth and barks until Tim is at my side.

Typically, I sleep in while Tim leaves for work. He gives me a kiss good-bye and Sox gets up and barks him farewell. The day after we lose Peetie, I wake up and it hits me. She is gone. And I start to bawl in bed. Sox comes to my side and starts licking my tears. I go to cover my face with my sheets and he not so gently slaps it down. For a whole year, until I was done grieving. Sox sat at the end of the bed. Waiting, watching and comforting me.

Happy Adopt-a-versary Sox.

Piccolo & Sophie

I’m starting to think that Pomeranians are natural models in front of the camera. I have yet to meet a fluff muffin that doesn’t like having their photo taken. Piccolo and Sophie were adorable, super fluffy (these sisters put my poms to shame in the undercoat game), well behaved Pomeranians on the day of our Glendale photo session!

6th Annual Royal Dragonfly Book Award Winners Announced

CHANDLER, AZ (November, 2015) – Winners of the 2015 Royal Dragonfly Book Awards have been announced by Five Star Publications, Inc.

Slow Dancing with a Stranger by Meryl Comer has earned this year’s $300 Grand Prize as well as First Place designations in the Aging and General Nonfiction categories and Honorable Mention in the First-time Author category. An Emmy-award winning broadcast journalist and leading Alzheimer’s advocate, Comer has written a profoundly personal, unflinching account of her husband’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease that serves as a much-needed wake-up call to better understand and address a progressive and deadly affliction. When Comer’s husband Harvey Gralnick was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease in 1996, she watched as the man who headed hematology and oncology research at the National Institutes of Health started to misplace important documents and forget clinical details that had once been cataloged encyclopedically in his mind. With harrowing honesty, she brings readers face to face with this devastating condition and its effects on its victims and those who care for them. Detailing the daily realities and overwhelming responsibilities of caregiving, Comer sheds intensive light on this national health crisis, using her personal experiences—the mistakes and the breakthroughs—to put a face to a misunderstood disease, while revealing the facts everyone needs to know.

Additional first-place winners include The Tiny Portrait by Heidi Carla, illustrated by Karla Cinquanta, which was also the $100 drawing winner; Bee in the Sea by Adam Reed, illustrated by Izzy Bean; American Mojo Lost and Found: Restoring Our Middle Class Before the World Blows by Peter D. Radke.
